Alice Lloyd College lands two Lawrence Co. athletes for volleyball & baseball;
LOUISA, KY – On Friday March 15th was a great day for Lawrence Co. sports. Alice Lloyd College coaches Jolene Watts (volleyball) & Jason Stowers (assistant baseball coach) made the trip down to LCHS’s library on Bulldog Lane to witness the signings of future Eagle ball players. Seniors Merissa Bowman and Ryan Kingsmore both signed letters of intent to continue playing at the college level.
Friends and family gathered in the library for signings at 1:00 and 1:30 pm with cake for everyone afterwards. ALC’s program is in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (KIAC) and has a 35 game regular season schedule in 2013 before tournament time.
Bowman is the second LC Volley Dawg to sign for ALC this year as Hali Adams committed to play for coach Watts in February. Bowman played numerous positions for coach Lambert as a Bulldog from being a hard server, putting an assist up for a teammate, or going up to the net and smashing the ball back into the opponents face.
“Merissa is a hard worker and she is just one of the pieces that helped start this program, I’m very proud of this young lady,” said LC Lady Volleyball coach Richard Lambert. “I look forward to coming up to Alice Lloyd and watching both these girls that have signed and hopefully this will let other kids out there know with hard work you can get to that point in life at the college level.”
Bowman has showed hard work and dedication on the court for LC as she was one of the 12 seniors from this year’s squad for coach Lambert that had to show leadership with a win or loss.
“It was a pleasure that we welcomed Merissa to the 2013-2014 Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles Volleyball team. Her versatility as a player and her ability to play numerous positions will be a tremendous asset to our program. We expect great things from not only Merissa, but our program, and we are excited to start the season,” said coach Watts.
The second signing of the day was Ryan Kingsmore as he signed to further his playing career in baseball for ALC. ALC’s assistant coach Jason Stowers made the trip down from Pippa Passes, KY to witness a signing of a future Eagle baseball player. Ryan’s older brother Dustin graduated from ALC this past year and was also part of the Eagles baseball program and was known for his versatility in the infield.
Kingsmore has been a great asset to coach Feltner’s squad and he has taken the mound numerous times and plays in the outfield when not on the hill. Kingsmore can throw runners out with the canon of a right arm from any position in the outfield and for his size has the speed and agility to swipe several stolen bases.
“It’s truly been an honor and privilege to coach Ryan,” said LC baseball coach Travis Feltner. “The thing I’m most amazed and proud of about Ryan is the hard work he has put into up to this day. He’s been committed and dedicated to the program and I’m extremely proud of him.”
Kingsmore will get the opportunity to make a big difference for the Eagles next season under head coach Scott Cornett who is in his 23rd season. Cornett played for ALC from 1985 -1989 and went on to play two seasons as a catcher in the Major Leagues for the Chicago White Sox.
“Alice Lloyd College is very excited to be getting Ryan Kingsmore. He brings tremendous athleticism and speed to the Eagles line-up,” said Eagles assistant coach Jason Stowers. “Ryan will play multiple positions including the outfield but should see some innings on the mound even as a freshman. He has great arm strength and has some power in his bat. Ryan has an attitude and demeanor that will translate well into collegiate baseball. The Alice Lloyd coaching staff is thrilled Ryan chose our school and we look forward to watching him grow over the next four years.”
