SENIOR NIGHT a memorable one at Bulldog Arena for Taylor Porter and Kara Kirk; Finish regular season 21-7…
LOUISA, KY – The Lawrence Co. Lady Bulldogs finished the regular season off this past Wednesday night with a dominate team performance win (50-33) over a Region 16 team, the Russell Red Devils. All eyes were at center court before the beginning of the Varsity game as it was SENIOR NIGHT and seniors Taylor Porter and Kara Kirk were recognized for their accomplishments on the hard court as a Bulldog for their years played. Each girl was presented with a collage, their jersey, along with flowers.
Porter finished the night by leading all scorers with 25 points and collected 9 boards, 1 blocked shot and 3 steals. Kirk netted 8 points with 5 boards, 1 assists, 1 blocked shot, and 2 steals.
LC (21-7 overall, 12-6 Region, 4-5 District) has finished back-to-back seasons by having 20 wins under head coach Roger Harless.
“It’s a nice accomplishment for the girls basketball program, we have had some very talented and hard working girls this season and also from last year’s squad to help build the program back,” said coach Harless. “Tonight was a good win over a Region 16 team as it was Porter and Kirk’s night on SENIOR NIGHT. These two girls have brought a lot to this program, both hard workers on and off the court. They strive at all times on the court and that helps these younger girls to get motivated seeing that they don’t give up even being down by twenty points in a game.”
Russell (12-16 overall, 9-12 Region, 3-3 District) out of the 16th Region came in to give the Bulldogs a challenge after beating a good Lewis Co. team. The Red Devils never quite got things moving in the right direction against the Dawgs scoring under double digits in the first 3 periods. LC swiped 13 steals on the night and grabbed 26 defensive boards and a total of 34 boards for the game.
The Red Devils were led by Arden Gross with 10 points and teammate Madison Darnell added 5 points in the loss.
Sophomore Ashleigh Adkins had another dynamic performance for coach Harless as she added 7 points, 7 boards, 1 assist, 2 steals, & 1 blocked shot.
“Ashleigh has progressed into nice basketball player since she only played half the season last year and moved up as a starter this season. She gets in there with the best of the girls down low and can dribble along with quickness up and down the court,” said Harless.
The Lady Dawgs will begin the 57th District Tournament Monday, Feb. 18 at Magoffin Co. as they will play the Paintsville Tigers at 6:00 pm. Sheldon Clark waits the winner of the two teams to play the following night, Tuesday Feb. 19, for a chance to be in the championship game on Thursday, Feb. 21.
