Morehead Men’s Tennis Claims First Victory of the Season;
MOREHEAD, Ky. — The Morehead State men’s tennis team scored a 5-2 win over Alabama-Huntsville on Monday evening at the EAGLE Center Indoor Courts. The Eagles improve to 1-2 overall, while the Chargers slip to 0-2 on the season.
In doubles action, Morehead State junior Ji Hoon Heo and freshman Nick Mercer took court one, 8-5, against Jose Soto and Christopher Kano.
At No. 2, MSU seniors Hugo Almonte and Nathan Martin took the point, winning 8-3, over Bruno Medeiros and Guillermo Reyes. The Eagles also won at No. 3 as junior David Clifford and sophomore Kevin Deligny posted an 8-4 decision over Fredrik Graaner and Raphael Oliveira.
In singles, the Eagles took four of the six points from the Chargers. At No. 1, Heo fell behind early before defeating Soto 3-6, 6-2, 6-1. At No. 3, Martin also started slow, before beating Graaner 4-6, 6-2, 6-1. At No. 4, MSU freshman Giovanni Samaha tallied a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Medeiros.
At No. 5, Mercer rolled past Oliveira 6-1, 6-0. On number two, Kano defeated Clifford 1-6, 6-3, 6-3. To conclude the match on number six, Reyes knocked off Enrique Samudio 6-3, 6-2.
The Eagles are idle until Feb. 15 when they travel to Atlantic 10 Conference foe St. Louis for a match at 3 p.m. ET.
