Senior Brandon Clark pulls down double double in Rebels win over Sissonville;
GLENHAYES, WV – On Tuesday night, Tolsia went up against Cardinal Conference foe the Sissonville Indians. The Rebels came into the contest ranked #9 in Class AA. Tolsia senior Brandon Clark led the Rebels on the night in scoring with 19 points to go along with 11 boards, 2 assists, & 2 steals in blowout win over Sissonsville, 73-47.
Tolsia (8-6) got the hot hand early in the game from senior Terry Davis as he started the game by hitting from beyond the arc as he hit two more in the period. Davis once again connected from 3-point land as the buzzer sounded to go into halftime as he ended the night with 16 points. The Rebels went up by 9 points at the end of the 1st period as coach Hatfield’s squad had a 20-11 lead.
The Rebels senior leadership on the court in unselfishness as their quick passing sets up shots from around the perimeter. The size Tolsia brings on crashing the boards is fun to watch as you see orange and white jerseys around the basket for an attempt on a put back shot for a score. The Running Rebels found themselves on the glass on both ends of the floor for 36 rebounds.
Sissonville (4-9) had two players in double digits in the lose as seniors Trent Stowers led all scorers with 20 points and Zach Null added 14 points. Stowers had several massive blocks on the night that were sent with force, as I was almost the victim of one that slammed against the wall beside my head. The Indians coach Rich Skeen had his team prepared for coach Hatfield’s Rebels as Sissonvilles record doesn’t reflect with the ambitous playing on the court.
Being up by 20 points at halftime, 41-21, Tolsia showed no mercy and continued their stingy defensive play. Senior Morgan Stacy was the third Rebel to hit for double digit scoring as he threw down 13 points. The physical play between the two teams was challenged in the paint more in the second half as the Indians committed some brutal fouls and one being a technical for contact on a Tolsia player going for an attempt for a layup.
Coach Hatfield brought his three players in off the bench with just under 3:00 minutes left in game with a big lead. Freshman Zack Davis, younger brother to Terry, scored 1 point and brought down 1 board off the bench. Tolsia went 16-25 from the free throw line on the night.
Tolsia will be back in Cardinal Conference play this Friday, Jan. 25 as the Chapmanville Tigers will travel into Rebel Arena. Game time 7:00 pm
