More than 20 health providers on hand for displays
On Saturday, March 12, more than 20 local businesses, services and health-related agencies gathered at the Lawrence County Community Center to display and demonstrate the latest products, services and information available for the health, wellness and safety of our area residents. More than 70 visitors took advantage of the second annual Expo to learn more about services and products that are available right here in Louisa and Lawrence County.
Tasty, healthy foods were prepared and shared by Food City, the Cooperative Extension Service’s Family and Consumer Sciences Agent and chef Wes Heston. Young people from the Lawrence County 4-H Clubs dressed as fruits and vegetables to remind Expo-goers of the importance of incorporating these healthy foods into our menu plans.
Businesses and services taking part were Three Rivers Medical Center, which provided free health screenings and had representatives from a number of other departments of the hospital; Lawrence County Health Department; Food City; Lawrence County Board of Education; Mark & Tina Jackson – Jackson PEG Tub Stands; Genesis Respiratory Care; Kentucky Cancer Program; Alcoholics Anonymous; Kentucky Homeplace; Cornerstone Christian Counseling; Northeast Kentucky Community Action Agency, Inc.; US Army Corps of Engineers; Taylor Chiropractic; Net-Care Ambulance Service; Chef Wes Heston; Lawrence County Cooperative Extension Service Agriculture Agent, Family and Consumer Sciences Agent, and 4-H Agent, Western-Southern Insurance, Pathways, Inc., and WZAQ Radio. Registration was provided by representatives of the Lawrence County Homemakers.
Many door prizes were also awarded by the vendors, including the grand prize being a Wii, donated by Three Rivers Medical Center.
The Expo was again broadcast live on WZAQ Radio, hosted by Jeremy Sutherland.
The Expo was sponsored by the Lawrence County Health Advisory Team which was organized in 2009 to coordinate information about health services available to residents of our area and to promote healthy living. The Team focuses on four areas of improvement which include: Choose to Move More Everyday; Enjoy More Fruits and Veggies; Water First – Think Your Drink and Live Tobacco Free. Members of the Team include Three Rivers Medical Center, Lawrence County School District, Lawrence County Cooperative Extension Service and Lawrence County Health Department.
