Ethel Marie Johnson Ratcliff, 73, of Webb, W.Va. passed away Thursday, December 27, 2012 at Three Rivers Medical Center in Louisa, Ky. She was born November 15, 1939 in Horsecreek, W.Va. a daughter of Frances Evans Johnson and the late Thomas Johnson. She was a homemaker. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Ratcliff and a granddaughter, Samantha Ratcliff.
 

Survivors include her loving husband, Floyd Thomas Ratcliff of Webb, W.Va.; Mother, Frances Johnson; son, James Ratcliff; sisters, Doris Thompson, and Evelyn Chaffin; Brothers, Andrew Johnson, David Johnson and Phil Johnson; Grandson, Steven Ratcliff,  all of Webb, W.Va..

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM Sunday at Webb Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Kimble Copley officiating. Burial will follow at Webb Cemetery.  

Visitation will be after 6:00 PM Saturday at Webb Freewill Baptist Church.

Roger David Dillon

1952 - 2012

 

Roger David Dillon, 60, of Louisa, Ky. passed away Monday, December 24, 2012 at his home. He was born June 26, 1952 in Huntington, W.Va. a son of Pauline Johnson Dillon and the late Hustin Dillon. He was a mechanic for CSX Railroad. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and he was a member of the Fire & Iron Station 29 Motorcycle Club, and is  retired from Barboursville, W.Va. and Louisa, Ky. Fire Department.

Survivors include, his loving wife, Kathy Dewees Dillon of Louisa, Ky.; Mother, Pauline Johnson Dillon of Barboursville, W.Va.; Daughter, Jessica Dillon Akers of Louisa, Ky.; Son, Josh Dillon also of Louisa, Ky.; Sisters, Fern Waugh of Lasage, W.Va.; Grandchildren, Semarra Akers and C.D. Akers of Louisa, Ky.; And his Beloved English Bulldog, Sophie.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 PM Friday, December 28, 2012 at Young Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Donna Aros officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, Louisa, Ky.

Visitation will be 5:00 til 9:00 PM Thursday at Young Funeral Home Chapel.

1934 - 2012

Frances Fayetta York, age, 78 of 13 Dry Hill Ct, Lebanon, OH passed away Sunday, December 23, 2012 at Hospice Of Cincinnati of Blue Ash, OH.

Survived by one daughter, Kathryn S. Harris of Lebanon, OH and two sons; Vance A. York of Logan, OH, Mark A. York of Norfolk, VA;  Sister of two sisters: Fern Schrickel of Akron, OH, Patsy Orlovsky of Louisville, KY and two brothers: Heston Cooksey Jr. of Roanoke, VA, James K. Cooksey of Garden City, SC;  She also has nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her parents Hubert Fleming and Katherine Sword Cooksey and step father Heston Cooksey Sr.

The funeral will be held 1:00 pm on Thursday at Wilson Funeral Home Inc., 1270 Hwy 2565, Louisa, KY with Rev. Jimmy Cooksey officiating. 

Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Louisa, KY

Lark McCellan Marcum, 73, of Louisa, Ky. passed away Friday, December 21, 2012 at Kings Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky. He was born October 5, 1939 in Crum, W.Va. a son of the late Walter and Essie Helen Perry Marcum. He was a machinist for S&C Electric. He attended Upper Tabors Creek Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by wife, Estella Browning Marcum, and son, Glenn Marcum.
 

Survivors include, his loving wife, Pearline Frazier Marcum of Louisa, Ky.; daughter, Donna Sue Marcum; brothers, Delmar Joe Marcum, James Edward Marcum and Walter Marcum Jr. all of Fort Gay, W.Va. or Louisa, Ky.; sisters, Mary E. Elkins of Johnstown, Ohio; Sally Irene Runyon of Ashland, Ky.; Myrtle Blagg, Karen Keyser and Barbara Woodall all of Johnstown, Ohio. Four grandchildren of New Market Ala. and several nieces and nephews.

Donald E. Thompson

1942 - 2012

Donald E. Thompson, 70, of Louisa, Ky. passed away Monday, December 17, 2012 at Three Rivers Medical Center in Louisa, Ky. He was born March 2, 1942 in Harlan, Ky. a son of the late George W. and Lula Jennings Thompson. He was a carpenter.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Kristina L. Thompson.

Survivors include, wife, Doris A. Thompson of Louisa, Ky.; daughter, Donna A. Thompson, of Hurricane, W.Va.; two grandsons, Josjua S. Hillman and Brenton D. Ford; two great grandchildren, Wyatt Ford and Delilah Ford.

Rev. Fred Porter

1927 - 2012

 

Rev. Fred Porter, age 85, passed away peacefully at Southwest Residential Hospice, after a courageous battle with cancer on Dec. 17, 2012. He is the beloved husband of Ethel (nee Sword); loving father of Jim (Peggy), Debbie Wilfong, Joe (Sue), Chuck (Sandy) and Angel Boll (Rich); dear grandfather of Judy Keaney (Kevin), Kevin Wilfong, Todd Wilfong (Angela), Derrick Porter, Tyler Boll, DeAndria Porter, Savannah Boll, Jolene Porter and Emma Boll; step-grandfather of Craig, Cady and Colton Sturgill; great-grandfather of Aliyah Wilfong.

Fred is preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Henry Stewart and Opal Porter, stepmother Helen Porter; sisters, Jessie Porter, Bessie Blevins and Lutie Tabors and son, Jim Porter. He is survived by 14 brothers and sister, and a host of dear friends and family.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday December 22, 2012 at 10:00 am at the Wilson Funeral Home Louisa, Kentucky.

James C. Kirk, age 80, of Louisa died Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at J.J. Jordan Geriatric Center of Louisa, KY.  James was born July 7, 1932 in Louisa, KY. He is the son of the late Thomas Benton and the late Rebecca (Wellman) Kirk.  He married Patricia Lynn Floyd.

He served in the Army during the the Korean war from 11-13-1952 to 11-9-1954.  He was a retired Carpenter.

He is survived by his wife: Patricia Lynn(Floyd) Kirk , three daughters: Vickie (Joe) Arnett of Louisa, KY, Becky (David Boggs) Maynard of Louisa, KY, Sandy (Glen) Shannon of Louisa, KY and one son: Herbert "Bud" (Angie) Kirk of Louisa, KY;  ; He also has five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren. A special niece, Claudia Moran of Louisa, KY;

Archie B. Dotson, 87, of Louisa, Ky. passed away surrounded by her loving family on Monday, December 17, 2012 at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky. She was born February 8, 1925 in Kermit, W.Va. a daughter of the late Charles A. Kirk and Jessie Pickrell Kirk Skaggs. She was a retired nurse of Louisa General Hospital and the Louisa Medical Clinic. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry B. Dotson; one son, Thomas E. Akers;  brothers, William Fredrick Kirk and Robert Kirk; sisters, Kathleen Wolford and Virginia Pennington.

 Survivors include, one daughter, Delores (Ken) Henson of Louisa, Ky.; three sons, Jim (Glenda) Dotson of Louisa, Ky.; Bill Fred (Audrey) Dotson of Franklin Furnace, Ohio; Richard (Rhonda) Dotson of Fort Gay, W.Va.; 12 Grandchildren and 17 Great Grandchildren.

She was born January 27, 1954 in Louisa, Ky. a daughter of the late Clyde and Edna Webb Porter. She was a homemaker. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Vernon Thompson, one son, Joey Porter, one brother, Robert Porter.

1926 - 2012

Eula E. Spaulding, age 86, of Fort Gay, WV, died Thursday, December 13, 2012 at Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington, WV.  Eula was born June 21, 1926 in Fort Gay, WV. She is the daughter of the late Carmie and the late Inez Webb.  She was predeceased by her husband, Amos Jack Spaulding who died in  1999.

She was employed by  as a Stereo Factory Worker.

She is survived by one daughter: Brenda Spaulding of Fort Gay, WV and three sons: Frank Spaulding of Pawcatuck, CT, Jerry Spaulding of Norwich, CT, Richard Spaulding of Fort Gay, WV;  Sister of one sister: Maglene Hamm of Mansfield, OH and one brother: William David Webb of Washington C.H., OH; she also has thirteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren.

Predeceased by her Father, Carmie Webb, Mother, Inez Webb, daughter, Linda Seffton, Son, Carlos Spaulding.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Bill J. Rowe; daughter, Donna Daniels and sister, Edith Copley.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers; Richard, Eldon, Kenton, Ellis, Rabon and Abraham Goble and sisters; Evelyn Preston and Mary Griffing.

She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Sam Muncy, her sister, Dixie (Bill) Cumbo, Columbus, Ohio, five sons; Eldon Muncy, Sam (Anita) Muncy, Jr., James Stone, Joseph Stone, and Sam Michael Muncy, all of Louisa, Ky., four daughters; Ellen McCoy, Columbus, Ohio, Peggy (Charles Ray) Sammons and Pearlie (Danny) Diamond of Louisa, Ky., and Brenda Grim of Flat Gap, Ky. and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.

She was born June 2, 1923 in Genoa, W.Va. a daughter of the late Everett and Molly Robinson Robertson. She was a housewife. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, John Henry Snow, two stepsons; Delman Lewis Snow, and George Earl Snow, two brothers; Sideny Robinson and Charlie Robinson and one sister.

Survivors include two sons; Lonnie Kenny Robertson, Indianapolis, Ind., and Ralph (Dianne) Snow of Genoa, W.Va., three stepsons; Selvan Gene Snow, Jay (Rose) Snow, and Franklin Stewart (Dorseen) Snow, all of Genoa, W.Va., three stepdaughters; Roberta Eloise Moore, Peggie (Charles) Curnutte, and Maggie Lee Snow, all of Genoa, W.Va., three granddaughters; Sabrina Nikita Snow, Genoa, W.Va., Annie Haga and Jenni Wilbur, both of Indianapolic, Ind., ten grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

Tommy Lee Boyd, Jr.,"Tombo" age 42, of Louisa, died Thursday, December 6, 2012 at Kings Daughters Medical Center of Ashland, KY. Tommy was born April 10, 1970 in Louisa, KY., the son of Tommy Lee and Connie (Sluss) Boyd who survive.

He was the owner of Tombo's Trucking.

He is also survived by his loving wife: Bonnie (Hammond) Boyd and two daughters: Laura Boyd Hall of Louisa, KY and Kendra Pope of Greenup, KY, his parents and one special granddaughter, McKenzie.

Willis Allen Caperton, 66, of Louisa, Ky. passed away Dec. 2, 2012 at Kings Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky. after a short illness. Born February 7, 2012 in Louisa, he was a son of the late John Allen and Thelma Louisa Martin Caperton. He was a retired U.S. Customs agent.

Survivors include his loving wife of 44 years Lois Jean Caperton, Louisa, Ky., two sons; Charles Caperton, Catlettsburg, ky., Scott Caperton, West Palm Beach, Fla., and 10 grandchildren.

Roger Lee "Dooley" Ratliff

1958 - 2012

 

Roger Lee Ratliff, "Dooley" age 53, of Louisa died Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at Kings Daughters Medical Center of Ashland, KY. Mr. Ratliff was born December 15, 1958 in Phelps, KY. He is the son of the late Columbus and the late Minnie Pearle (Charles) Ratliff.

He was a Laborer and a member of the National Labor Union Local 1445.

He is survived by his wife: Beverly (Riffe) Ratliff, one daughter: Bobbi Jean Johnson of Louisa, KY and one son: Ferresse Riffe of Paintsville, KY; He also has four grandchildren, two Sisters and eight Brothers

The funeral will be held 1:00 pm on Saturday, December 1 at Wilson Funeral Home with Bro. Jack Savage officiating. Burial will be in the Ratliff Cemetery, Louisa Ky.

Calling hours will be Friday, November 30 from 6:00 to 9:00 pm at Wilson Funeral Home Louisa, KY.

Carl Kemp Little, Jr.

1931 - 2012

Carl Kemp Little, Jr., 81, of Waynesboro, VA, formerly of Fort Gay and Kenova, WV, passed away Tuesday, November 27, 2012, at home. He was born April 25, 1931, in Inez, KY, son of the late Carl and Blanche Cassidy Little. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Minerva Maynard Little, and siblings Oretha Kirk, Romaine Mills, Helen Jones, Ernestine Copley, and James Little.

Mr. Little retired from the WV Department of Health and Human Resources in 1988, after serving as Administrator for Wayne, Mingo, and Cabell Counties. He was very active in the community and served on many advisory boards including; former Chairman of the Board for Valley Health Systems; former board member and Chairman of the Board for Community Action Council of Wayne County; former board member of River Valley Child Development Services; charter board member of the Wayne County Headstart Program. He had been a member of the Louisa United Methodist Church in Louisa, KY, since 1978, and had regularly attended Spring Valley Presbyterian Church of Huntington, WV, since 2000.

He is survived by his children; Jacquie (Joseph) Romano, Kevin (Danielle) Little, Tonji (Ron) Bowen, and Trevor (Holly) Little. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Brooke (Daniel) Retana, Josephine Buscemi, Monique Buscemi, Mackenzie and Sophie Little, Bradey and Nicholas Bowen, Logan, Carson and Clara Little and siblings; Franklin Little, Yvonne McCoy, and Betty (Richard) Konieczko, as well as a brother-in-law, Darrell (Virginia) Maynard. In addition, Mr. Little is survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday Nov. 30, 2012 at Young Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Rick Wilson. Burial will follow at the Maynard-Frazier Family Cemetery, Glenhayes, WV.

Visitation will be 6-9 Thursday at Young Funeral Home.

Roy Glendon Holbrook

1919 - 2012

Roy Glendon Holbrook, 93, of Louisa, Ky. passed away Monday, November 26, 2012 at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky. He was born June 28, 1919 in Ashland, Ky. a son of the late Azel and Pearl Ross Holbrook. He was an operator for Tennessee Gas Transmission Co. He was a United States Navy WWII Veteran. Roy was a life long produce farmer, and served as a Lawrence County Magistrate for two terms, he also was on the Farm Bureau Committee for 50 plus years. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Victoria S. Holbrook who passed away in 2011, and also preceded by brother, Ray E. Holbrook.

Survivors include, two daughters, Carol H. (Todd) Ward of Louisa, Ky.; Glenda H. (Joe) Blackgrove of Warner Robins, GA.; Grandchildren, Christi, Van, Kimber, Rob, and Cara; Great Grandchildren, Cameron, Kylie, Caden, Anthony, Luke, Liam, Mia, and Lorelei.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Saturday, December 1, 2012 at Young Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ric Frazier officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, Louisa.

Visitation will be 6:00 til 9:00 PM Friday at Young Funeral Home, Louisa.

Idabelle Berry

1925 - 2012

Idabelle Berry, 87, of Sand Branch Road, Louisa, Ky. died November 19, 2012 after a short illness. She was born Oct. 8, 1925 at Fallsburg, Ky. a daughter of the late Lewis and Cora Denfield Fannin. She was a housewife and a nurse's aid at Humana Hospital in Louisa, Ky. during her working years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Berry who passed away in 2008.

Surviving are one daughter, Deborah Adkins, Louisa, Ky., one son, Jack L. Berry, Louisa, Ky. one sister, Avanell Hunt, Carroll, Ohio and one grandchild, Daniel Berry.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 pm Saturday, November 24, 2012 at Young Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ralph Hogston and Rev. Noah Wilks officiating. Burial will follow at Berry Cemetery, Louisa, Ky.

Visitation will be 4 - 9 pm Friday, November 23 at Young Funeral Home, Louisa, Ky. with family gathering at 3:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the family for funeral expenses.

 

James Daniel Robertson

1972 - 2012

FORT GAY — James Daniel Robertson, 40, of Fort Gay, W.Va., died Sunday at his residence. He was born March 8, 1972 in Louisa, Ky. a son of Vernon Lee and Athelene Williamson Robertson Sr. He was a landscaper for Castle Lawn Care. He was preceded in death by one brother, Vernon Lee Robertson and one sister, Bernice Bartram.

Survivors include his parents, Vernon Lee and Athelene Robertson Sr. of Ft. Gay, W.Va., wife Rebecca Robertson, two daughters; Aleasha Michelle Dawn Robertson, of Ft. Gay, W.Va. and Christy Lane Robertson of Shelby, NC., one son, Matthew Steven Robertson of Shelby, NC., five sisters; Teresa Clay, Louisa, Ky., Rachel Robertson, Doris Hale, Ft. Gay, W.Va, Fannie Napier, Louisa, Ky., Polly Robertson, Ft. Gay, W.Va., three brothers; Rodney Robertson, Emmanual Robertson, both of Ft. Gay, W.Va. and Robert Robertson, Blaine, Ky. bestfriends Angel, Olive and Athelene, and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012 at Oak Grove Church in Fort Gay with Rev. Luther Dingess and Rev. Roger Watts officiating. Burial will follow at the Robertson Cemetery.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. today (Tuesday) at the church.
