She is survived by her husband, Rob Dosier of Louisa, Ky.
A memorial service will be held 7:00 pm on Thursday, May 17 at Wilson Funeral Home Louisa, KY .
About the Artist...
Maureen Dosier was born in Miami, Florida in 1952. She has been a working artist since her late teens. Originally from south Florida, her hand knit scarves and paintings have won many awards throughout the years which have been displayed and sold through art festivals, the internet, galleries and specialty shops.
In 1994, she and her husband relocated their business to eastern Kentucky where she basically started all over again, not knowing anyone locally in the arts. Her love for people, animals and nature is inspiration for many of her paintings, which vary in style.
Maureen’s artistic medium changes with her moods from paint mediums on a mix of surfaces including canvas, wood, furniture, walls and theatrical sets, to a diversity of styles and when she tires of painting she picks up her knitting needles!
Over the past fifteen years she has met many artists and volunteered much of her time to the arts. She has been president of the Lawrence County Arts Council since 1998, at which time she initiated two new art festivals, a diversity of monthly art programs for residents of all ages, instructed art workshops and lectured in the public schools and community. She loves mentoring new artists and encouraging them to start showing and selling their artwork.
In 2007, she bought a building in downtown Louisa and opened the county's first fine art gallery the Painted Cow Gallery featuring talented local artists from the tri-state area and beyond. The gallery mirrors big city galleries with a diverse collection of artwork, although unlike big city galleries, at very affordable prices.
In Louisa, she started the Arts Council, had things for school children in school, we went there during school hours and did all kinds of art projects with the kids. She had painting and artclasses during the summer and craft things for kids to do at the gallery. She encouraged local artists and helped them sell their art, she had talent shows a the schools and craft bazaars at school and the gallery. She had art contests for children and grownups, which were displaid at the library and the gallery and shows at the lake. She was a remarkable woman and did much for the community and the children and the children benefitted from her care as did a lot of other people. She was loved and will be missed.
