Vernon Pack 

1969 - 2016

Vernon Pack, age 47, died January 2, 2016 at his residence in Fort Gay, WV.

He was a son of the late John Sherman and Irene Pack. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Sherman F. Pack, Emery Lynn Pack, and Simon John Pack.

Survivors include, one son, Clyde Emery Pack and daughter Olivia Pack both of Fort Gay, WV.; five sisters; Mae Mullett, Lorna Pack of Louisa, Ky., Orpha Mounts, Monnie Pack, Oma Hardwick all of Fort Gay, WV.; four brothers, Louis, Pete Pack of Fort Gay, WV.; Ronnie Pack of Poquoson, VA.; Ricky Pack of Indianapolis, Ind.; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 PM Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Young Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. William Sprigg officiating, Jerry Patrick will read the obituary. Burial will follow at the Thompson Cemetery, Fort Gay, WV.

Visitation will be 6:00 til 9:00 PM Friday at Young Funeral Home Chapel.

 

Michael Ray Holt

1955 - 2016

Michael Ray Holt, 60, of Fort Gay, W.V. passed away Saturday, January 2, 2016 at his home.

He was born September 7, 1955 in Louisa, Ky. a son of the late Paul T. and Clovia Lemaster Holt. Mike was a member of Oak Grove Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by siblings, Claude Holt, Bruce Holt, Terry Holt and Helen Perry.

Survivors include, two daughters, Christina (Greg) Haney of Fairmont, WV; Katherine (Seth) Marcum of Fort Gay, WV; wife, Brenda Holt of Huntington, WV; granddaughter, Emma Marcum of Fort Gay, WV; brothers, Joe (Debbie) Holt of Louisa, Ky.; Jim (Sheila) Holt of Catlettsburg, Ky.; Jerry Holt of Alabama; sisters, Barbara Ann (Elsie) Blevins of Ashland, Ky.; Carol (Johnny) Crabtree of Fort Gay, W.V.; Ruby (Cal) Caldrone of Ohio; Maxine Endicott of Port Orange, Fla.; Tina (Mike) Finley of Fort Gay, W.V.; Tammy Holt of Fort Gay, W.V..

A Memorial service will be conducted 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at Oak Grove Church with Mack Ray Cyrus officiating, with a visitation one hour prior to service.

Russell Warren Wells

1921 - 2016

Russell Warren Wells, 94, of Louisa, KY went to be with the Lord on Friday January 1, 2016 following a brief illness.

Russell was born Dec. 26, 1921 at Blaine, KY the son of the late Sam and Rachel Wheeler Wells. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by two daughters Brenda and Bobbie Wells, a daughter-in-law Kay Wells, three brothers; Charles, Fred, and Homer; and two sisters Rebecca and Dixie.

Russell was a 1950 graduate of UK College of Agriculture, a retired office manager for the United States Department of Agriculture ASCS Louisa office. He was a United States Army Veteran serving in the Signal Corp during WWII. He also was a member of the American Legion, a Kentucky Colonel, and TRMC Senior Circle. Russell was the oldest member of the First Baptist Church Louisa and served as a Trustee.

Survivors include his loving wife of 68 years, Nora Howell Wells; a daughter Nancy Ellen Collins and husband Jerry of Springfield, GA; two sons, John Russell Wells and wife Lavada of Avon, IN and Robert Wayne Wells of Ashland, KY; a brother, Ben Wells of Blaine, KY; eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday Jan. 5 at 10:00 am at the Wilson Funeral Home with Revs Chuck Price, Willie Gene Hayes, and Donnie Wells officiating. Burial will follow in the Yatesville Memorial Gardens Louisa, KY.

Friends may visit the family from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm Monday Jan. 4 at Wilson Funeral Home.

The family would like to especially give thanks to his caregivers Jean Thompson and Debbie Hughes and also the staff of the Jordan Care Center here in Louisa.

Teddy Arnold Wheeler 

1947 - 2016

Teddy Arnold Wheeler 68 of Louisa, KY passed away Friday Jan. 1, 2016 at his home.

Teddy was born Feb. 5, 1947 in Louisa, KY the son of the late Ray and Shirley Johnson Wheeler. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by two sisters Wanda Parks and Ruth DeBord.

Teddy was a retired owner operator truck driver and a United States Army Veteran.

Survivors include his loving wife Veronica Moore Wheeler, a daughter Shirla Renee Wells and husband Paul of Louisa, KY; two sons Michael Wheeler and wife Michelle of Kettering, Ohio and Brian Wheeler also of Louisa, KY; seven grandchildren; two brothers, Willis Wheeler of Texas and Ron Wheeler of Illinois; a sister Linda Bolt of Louisa, KY. 

Graveside funeral services will be held on Monday Jan. 4 at 11:00 am at the Wheeler Family Cemetery Highway 1185 Louisa, KY.

Military graveside rites will be conducted by members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.

Friends may visit the family from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm Sunday at the Wilson Funeral Home.

Stella Jones 

1930 - 2016

Stella Jones 85 of Fort Gay, WV passed away Friday Jan. 1, 2016 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice Care Center following a long illness.

Stella was born Feb. 14, 1930 the daughter of the late Everett and Polly Ann Kinser Browning. She is preceded in death by a daughter Sharon Lynn Jones, five sisters and two brothers. Stella was retired from Shoney’s in Huntington, WV.; and of the Baptist Faith.

Survivors include three daughters Kathy Watts of Prichard, WV, Karen Kay Thompson of Hayward, CA, and Stella Marie Ann Matney and husband Eddie of Fort Gay, WV; three sons Edward Lee Jones of Harts, WV, Michael Dale Jones and wife Mary of Fort Gay, WV, and Ricky Allen Jones and wife Alice of Dorest, Ohio; a sister Winnie Browning of Proctorville, Ohio; 14 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services will be conducted on Sunday Jan. 3rd at 2:00 pm at the Everett and Polly Browning Cemetery at Mann’s Knob Harts, WV with Bro. Chris Wilson officiating.

Friends may visit the family from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm Saturday Jan. 2nd at the Wilson Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice Care Center  3100 Strauton Road Huntington, WV 25702.

George John Krohn II 

1928 - 2015

George John Krohn II, 87, of Louisa, KY went to be with the Lord on December 29, 2015 following a brief illness.

George was born May 27, 1928 at Auburn Township, Ohio, the son of the late George John Krohn Sr. and Louise C. Koerlinie Krohn. In addition to his parents George is preceded in death by his wife, Nannie Marcum Krohn. He was a retired machinist at the Naval Air Rework Facility, senior deacon at the Saltpetre Community Church, a United States WWII Navy Veteran, and a member of the Chesapeake Virginia V.F.W.

Survivors include his wife, Janie Krohn; a daughter Sharon Krohn Caudell and husband Otto of Raleigh, NC, son George John Krohn III and wife Patricia of Monroe, MI, four grandchildren Julie King, Brittany Anderson, William Caudell, and George Krohn IV; a great grandson Jackson King. Additional survivors are two step children Jennifer Thompson and husband Randy, and Dennis Smith II and wife Becky, two step grandchildren Nicole Cook and Randa Thompson; and two step great grandchildren Blake Cook and Brayden Cook.

Funeral services will be held on Friday January 1, 2016 at the Saltpetre Community Church with Pastor Richard Maynard officiating. Burial will follow in the Lynch Cemetery Saltpetre Road Fort Gay, WV.

Francis Eugene Gilliam, 85, of Blaine, Ky. passed away Monday, December 28, 2015 at his home.

He was born February 26, 1930 in Isonville, Ky. a son of the late Herbert and Dovie Keaton Gilliam. He was a retired truck driver. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sibling, Ethel Pittman, James, Oval, Lorie, and Olgie Gilliam.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Ann Gilliam of Blaine, Ky.; sons, Johnny (Teresa) Curnutte of Louisa, Ky.; Billy (Heather) Curnutte of Spring Valley, Ohio; Francis Jr. (Kellie) Gilliam of High Ridge, Missouri; brothers, Avery Gilliam of South Carolina, Yorkie Gilliam of Cinn. Ohio; sisters, Myrtle Connolly of Mazie, Ky.; Laura Lyon of Isonville, Ky., Elena Woodford of Plain City, Ohio, Pam Davis of Memphis, TN; grandsons, Jonathan Curnutte of Morehead, Ky.; Braxton Gilliam of High Ridge, Missouri.

Carrol Lockridge 

1923 - 2015

Carrol Lockridge, 82, formerly of Louisa, KY went to be with the Lord on December 26, 2015 following a brief illness.

Carrol was born Nov. 20, 1933 in Webster County Kentucky the son of the late Charlie and Lola Melton Lockridge. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a daughter Darla Wright, a sister Ann Griffin, and a brother Douglas Lockridge. Carrol was a member of the Louisa Church of God, Apperson F&AM 195 and served in the National Guard.

Survivors include his son Jimmie Lockridge and wife Elizabeth of Winchester, KY; a step daughter Jamie Gallagher, two step sons Dicky Powell and Jimbo Powell,  a sister Dorothy Koons of Owensboro, KY, eight grandchildren, and three great grandchildren Waylon Lockridge, T.K. Ellis, and Keaden Ellis.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday Dec. 30 at 11:00 am at the Wilson Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Stepp officiating. Burial will follow in the Yatesville Memorial Gardens.

Buford McGinnis, 80, of Louisa, KY went to be with the Lord on December 25, 2015 at Kings Daughters Medical Center following a brief illness.

Buford was born Sept. 22, 1935 at Deboard, KY the son of the late James “Ike” McGinnis and Alifair Cook McGinnis Crum. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a daughter Elizabeth Ann Napier; 5 sisters Lucille Woods, Sillar Marie Buffington, Claire Chambers, Doris McGinnis, Marierita McGinnis, and 2 brothers Lewis Jr. and Harry Eugene McGinnis. Buford was a disabled truck driver and of the Baptist Faith.

Survivors include his loving wife Brenda Napier McGinnis; four daughters Kayla Dawn McGinnis, Jessica Nicole McGinnis Loertscher, Jennifer Rose McGinnis, and Jody Lynn McGinnis Daniels; 5 sisters Corrine Holstein, Virgie McGinnis, Nancy Moore, Georganna Tucker, and Beulah Spencer; 4 brothers Rufus, Robert, James S., and David McGinnis; a granddaughter, Annabeth Alifair Gail Daniels.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday Dec. 29 at 1:00 pm at the Wilson Funeral Home with Bro. Lonnie Ratliff, Bro. Ronnie Childers, and Bro. Roger Jordan officiating. Burial will follow in the McGinnis Cemetery at Louisa, KY.

Audrey Faye Workman, 68, of Fort Gay, W.V. passed away Friday, DDecember 25, 2015 at Three Rivers Medical Center in Louisa, Ky.

She was born July 11, 1947 in Fort Gay, W.V. a daughter of the late Garland and Blanche Robertson Akers. She was a homemaker and was a member of Smith Chapel Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her daughter, Christine Faye Davis; grandson, Lucas Robertson; granddaughter, Kaitlyn Workman; sisters, Lorene Ferguson and Doris Jervis.

Survivors include, her loving husband, Bernard Workman of Fort Gay, W.V.; daughters, Racheal (Nick) Maynard of Columbus, Ohio; Rosalie (Danny Ray) Robertson of Fort Gay; April Dawn Workman of Fort Gay; sons, Arnold (Jennifer) Watts of Blackville, WV; Greg Watts of Louisa, Ky.; Joseph(Michelle) Workman of Fort Gay; Nicholas Workman of Louisa, Ky.; sisters, Diane Sanders of Fort Gay; Linda Dingess of Fort Gay; Addie Robinette of North Carolina; brother, Garland Akers of Fort Gay; 8 Grandchildren and 7 Great Grandchildren.

A.B. Copley, 92, of Prichard, W.V. passed away Thursday, December 24, 2015 at Three Rivers Medical Center in Louisa, Ky.

He was born September 17, 1923 in Logan, W.V. a son of the late Roy and Martha Copley.  He was a retired painter and was a United States WWII Navy Veteran. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine Cox Copley; two sons, Ray Copley and Paul Copley; sisters, Macie Copley, and Emma Robinson; brother, Tom Copley.

Survivors include, one daughter, Faye (Dan) Francis of Fort Gay, W.V.; sisters, Violet Miller of Prichard, W.V., Vangie Parsons of Ceredo,  W.V.; Grandchildren, Troy (Jennifer) Sayre, Dustin Copley, Kelly Copley, Carrie (Nathan) Dugan; 7 Great Grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM Sunday, December 27, 2015 at Young Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at the Copley Cemetery, Trace Branch Rd. Fort Gay.

Juanita Queen Blankenship 86 of Louisa, KY went to be with the Lord on Sunday December 20, 2015 at her home following a brief illness.

Juanita was born December 6, 1929 at Portsmouth, Ohio the daughter of the late Joseph Frank and Neva Hall Meek. She was a retired Beef and Dairy Farmer. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by husbands Ray Queen and John T. Blankenship;  two brothers Billy Joe Meek and Clarence Meek; and a sister Lillian Short. Juanita was a member of the Willard Missionary Baptist Church, Eastern Star, Rebekah’s, DAR, and the Lawrence County Democrat Woman’s Club.

Survivors include two daughters Ruth Ann Fordham and husband Larry of Lenoir City, TN and Karla Wells and husband Gary of Louisa, KY; two grandchildren Crystal Constant and husband Levi and Reva Traugott; two great grandchildren Kendall Constant and Knox Constant; three sisters Jewell Dixon of Florida, Martha Walters of Catlettsburg, KY and Bobbie Meek of Louisa, KY; a brother Frank Meek also of Louisa, KY.

Elmer Bishop, 80, of Ashland, Ky. passed away Friday, December 18, 2015 at Kings Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky.

He was born May 19, 1935 in Blaine, Ky. a son of the late Henry and Rotha Bowling Bishop. He was a retired floor covering installer and was a member of the Cannonsburg Church of Christ.

Survivors include, his loving wife of 58 years, Julia J. Evans Bishop of Ashland, Ky.; two brothers, Jack Bishop of Marysville, Ohio, Junior Bishop of Plaincity, Ohio; one sister, Gladys Wright of Lancaster, Ohio, and Brenda (Everett) Jenkins of Kittsville, Ohio, who was thought of as a daughter. Elmer will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 pm Monday, December 21, 2015 at Cannonsburg Church of Christ with ministers, Mike Fyffe and Sam Meek officiating. Burial will follow at the Sparks Cemetery, Blaine, Ky.

Glen H. Cassady 

1960 - 2015

Glen H. Cassady, 55, of Louisa, KY passed away December 10, 2015 at Donalsonville, GA following a sudden illness.

Glen was born March 1, 1960 in Paintsville, KY the son of the late Elmer and Doris “Tootsie” Helton Cassady. In addition to his parents Glen was preceded in death by his daughter Storm Rachelle Cassady, brothers Elmer Cassady Jr., Granville Cassady, Charles Cassady, and Odell Cassady; sisters Nollis Smith and Loraine Droz. Glen was a railroad contractor.

Survivors include his loving wife Linda Ward Cassady; a daughter and son-in-law Atasha Rachelle and Laine Hughes of Louisa, KY; a grandson Isaah “Little Man” Hughes; brothers Monroe Cassady, Bill Cassady, Thomas Cassady, James Everett Cassady, and Clark Cassady; a sister Lois Jean Walker.

Graveside funeral services will be held on Tuesday Dec. 15 at 1:30 pm at the Kirk Cemetery at Route 292 Inez, KY with Rev. Bobby Workman officiating.

Joe Wayne Compton

1947 - 2015

Joe Wayne Compton, 68, born June 5, 1947, the son of Louise Branham Compton and the late Wayne Scott Compton. Husband for nearly 45 years to Carol Ann Jones Compton, left his earthly body December 9, 2015 and is present with his Lord, Jesus Christ.

He is loved and his presence missed by his sister, Janice Lee Compton Cornwell (Randall), his children: Joe Wayne Compton II (Friederike) of Berlin Germany, Elizabeth Louise Compton of Louisa, Phillip Ross Compton of Lexington, his grandchildren, Marlene Sophie Compton, Charlotte Isabelle Compton, and Phillip Scott Compton, all of Berlin, Germany.

Joe was a member of the Lawrence County High School Class of 1965 and a graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Business and Economics. He retired from the Louisa Water Company as superintendent-operator. He was a member of the Gideon's helping spread God's word. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Louisa, currently serving as chairman of deacons and Sunday School Teaching assistant. He was a ham radio operator, call sign KJ4LVY. He enjoyed woodworking, watching football and basketball, singing in the choir and studying the Bible and history.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 pm Sunday, December 13, 2015 at First Baptist Church of Louisa with Pastor Chuck Price officiating. Burial will follow at the Cyrus Cemetery.

Visitation will be 6:00 til 9:00 PM Saturday at Young Funeral Home Chapel.

Teresa Gail Boyd

1957 - 2015

Teresa Gail Boyd 58 of Lowmansville, KY went to be with the Lord on Sunday December 6, 2015 following a brief illness.

Teresa was born August 29, 1957 at Louisa, KY the daughter of the late Kermit and Nevondia Price Church. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Roger Boyd and a brother Jerry Church.

Survivors include a son Roger Boyd of Lowmansville, KY; two brothers Larry Church of Louisa, KY and Gary Church of Lowmansville, KY; a sister Kathy Church also of Lowmansville, KY; two grandchildren Logan and Leah Boyd.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday Dec. 9 at 2:00 pm at the Walnut Grove FWB Church with Rev. Jimmy Vanhoose officiating. Burial will follow in the Hanners Cemetery at Nelson Branch Lowmansville, KY.

Friends may visit on Tuesday Dec. 8 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Wilson Funeral Home.

Barbara Rae Coates

1947 - 2015

Barbara Rae Coates, 68, of Louisa, Ky. passed away Friday, December 4, 2015 at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky.

She was born May, 22, 1947 in Deerborne, MI. a daughter of the late Dexter and Rosie Scarbuar Wooten. She was a retired CNA and she was of Baptist Faith. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Coates; son, Troy Ray Baldwin; brother, Floyd Wooten; sisters, Mary, Janet and Clara.

Survivors include, one son, Eugene Baldwin of Louisa, Ky.; one daughter, Tracy (Steve) Long of Louisa, Ky.; husband Tom Baldwin; two sisters, Charlotte and Emily; grandchildren, Brandon Baldwin, Joshua Baldwin, Tiffany Baldwin, Adam Baldwin, Kandyce Baldwin, Andrew Baldwin, Gage Baldwin; great grandchildren, Nick Baldwin and Brayden Baldwin.

Funeral services will be conducted 12:00 pm Sunday, December 6, 2015 at Young Funeral Home Chapel with Dave Baldwin officiating. Burial will follow at the Peck Cemetery, Chapman, Ky.

Betty Jo Heath 

1932 - 2015

Betty Jo Heath, 83, of Crum, WV passed away Wednesday December 2, 2015 at Three Rivers Medical Center following a brief illness.

Betty was born Nov. 1, 1932 at Williamson, WV the daughter of the late Claude and Vada Runyons Vernatter. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include two daughters Claudette Haberer of Chapmansville, WV and Linda Penny Copley of Camp Creek, WV; three sons Jimmy Gantt of Milton, WV, Douglas and Mark Heath both of Crum, WV; Six sisters Roxie Dotson , Jannie Holman, Juanita Blackburn, Cloann Copley, Lummie Brown and Lorene Brown; two brothers Ted and Otis Vernatter, 19 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be conducted on Friday December 4 at the Vernatter Cemetery at Crum, WV.

Evelyn Pack, 74, of Genoa, WV passed away Saturday, November 28, 2015 at her home.

She was born December 8, 1940 in Fort Gay, WV a daughter of the late Pete and Edna Hunt Thompson. She was a retired laborer for Harrison Jude Sawmill, and was a member of the Church of God. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Jennings Pack.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 PM Monday, November 30, 2015 at Young Funera Home Chapel with Rev. Randy Smith officiating. Burial will follow at he Thompson Cemetery, Vinson Branch Rd.

Visitation will be 6:00 til 9:00 pm Sunday at Young Funeral Home Chapel.

Ruby Fugitt Short

1936 - 2015

Ruby Fugitt Short, 79, of Louisa, Ky. passed away Thursday, November 26, 2015 at Kings Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky.

She was born September 21, 1936 in Louisa, Ky. a daughter of the late William Bill and Mary McCoy Fugitt.  She was a retired Glass Factory laborer, she was of Baptist Faith. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Short and her siblings, Earl "Bude" Fugitt, William Jr. Fugitt, Garland Fugitt, Emogene Daniels, Francis Clay and Murrell Daniels.

Survivors include, two children, Bill (Brenda) Short of Louisa, Ky.; Tammy (Dean) Webb also of Louisa, Ky.; 4 Grandchildren and 9 Great Grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 pm Sunday, November 29, 2015 at Young Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Gary Robertson and Bro. John Horn officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, Louisa, Ky.

Visitation will be 5:00 til 9:00 PM Saturday at Young Funeral Home Chapel.

Anna Lou Maynard

1923 - 2015

Anna Lou Maynard, 92, of Glenhayes, West Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, November 24, 2015. 

She was born in Clifford, KY on February 10, 1923, the daughter of the late Dan and Nevada Ratcliffe of Glenhayes, West Virginia.  

Anna was valedictorian of Clifford, KY High School class of 1940. Graduating at seventeen, she went on to work for the Wayne County Board of Education, teaching at Horse Creek, Lost Creek and Glenhayes.  She continued her college education in the summers, graduating from Marshall University with honors.  Upon closure of Glenhayes Elementary, she taught fourth grade at Fort Gay Elementary, and was their first Special Education teacher. 

Anna was the oldest member of the Glenhayes Baptist Church where she was treasurer till age 90.  Anna was an avid reader, enjoyed quilting, bird watching, and wild life.  She was a true, Christian lady.  

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Jack Maynard, brothers, Pearl Ratcliffe of Glenhayes, Bill Ratcliffe of Fort Gay, Roy Ratcliffe of Glenhayes, and sister, Jewell Maynard of Detroit, Michigan.  

Anna is survived by sisters-in-law, Judy Ratcliffe of Glenhayes, Katheryn Ratcliffe of Fort Gay, Elizabeth Branham of Louisa, KY, Betty Goodaker of Romulus, Michigan, and brother-in-law Dan Maynard of Wheelersburg, OH; Aunt, Hazel Pettit of Columbus, OH; Terry Maynard and wife Anna Lee, a nephew of Titusville, FL, who was raised as a son; Her loving nephew, Dannie Maynard of Glenhayes who was her primary care giver for the last three years.  Two grandchildren, Dr. Malinda Maynard Husson and husband, David, of Richmond, VA, and Chris Maynard of Huntington, WV, as well as three great grandchildren, Dylan and Cain Maynard, and Alexander Husson.  She leaves behind many more nieces, nephews, and students, whom she loved dearly. 

Visitation will be held Saturday, November 28, from 5-9pm at Wilson Funeral Home in Louisa, KY.

Funeral Services will be conducted at Glenhayes Baptist Church at 1pm on Sunday, November 29 with Reverends Ronnie and Richard Maynard officiating.  Burial will follow in the Maynard Cemetery at Glenhayes, WV.

Elsie Bowen

1965 - 2015

Elsie Bowen, age 50, of Fort Gay, WV passed away Monday, November 23, 2015 at Three Rivers Medical Center.

Ms. Bowen was born May 24, 1965 in South Williamson, WV. She is the daughter of the late Ermil Hinkle and the late Shelvia Jackson.  

She is survived by two sons: Shawn Hinkle of Wayne, WV, Jack Junior Bowen of Painstsville, Ky; three sisters: Connie Hinkle, Loretta Mills, Mary Hinkle, one brother: William Ray Hinkle; half-sister, Amy Berry.

A graveside service will be held 2:00 pm on Friday, November 27 at Yatesville Memorial Gardens, with Rev. Richard Maynard officiating.

Rosie Barker

1930 - 2015

Rosie Barker, age 85, of Fort Gay, passed away Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at her home in Fort Gay.

Mrs. Barker was born May 10, 1930 in Twelpole , WV. She is the daughter of the late Mose and the late Tilda (Vance) Marcum. She is preceded in death by her husband, Marcle Barker, one daughter, Brenda Jenkins, and one son, Charles Ray Jenkins.

She is survived by one daughter: Wilma Patton of Fort Gay, WV and two sons: Arthur Jenkins, Homer Jenkins of Ashland, KY, and Arthur Jenkins of Lincoln Co., WV, and a host of grandchildren.

She was a Homemaker and of Baptist Faith

A graveside service will be conducted at 12:00 pm on Friday, November 27 at Barker Cemetery, Fort Gay, WV with Rev. Darrell Brewer officiating. Care has been entrusted to Wilson Funeral Home.

Johnny Adkins

1955 - 2015

Johnny Adkins, 60, of Ulysses, KY passed away Monday Nov. 23, 2015 at Three Rivers Medical Center following a long illness.

Johnny was born March 21, 1955, the son of the late George Junior and Minerva Kelly Adkins. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers Timmy and Wayne Adkins; and a sister Martha Ross.

Survivors include his wife Jerry Sue Wells of Ulysses, KY; three daughters Christie Caudill and husband Matthew of Paintsville, KY, Heather Adkins of Oil Springs, KY, and Ashley Adkins of Charleston, WV; a son J. R. Wells and wife Kim of Louisa, KY; three brothers Douglas Adkins of Newark, OH, Jimmy Adkins of Owingsville, KY, and George Adkins of Louisa, KY; three sisters Loretta Fannin of Louisa, KY, Karen Adkins of Louisa, KY, and Lorena Mae Sprouse of Webbville, KY.; nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday Nov. 25 at 1:00 pm at the Wilson Funeral Home with Rev. Frank Copley and Bro. Bryan Fannin officiating. Burial will follow in the Mose Preston Cemetery at Georges Creek, KY.

Effie Napier Huff Steele

1934 - 2015

Effie Napier Huff Steele, 81, of Louisa, Kentucky passed away on November 18, 2015 at St. Mary's Hospital, Huntington, West Virginia.

She was born March 6, 1934 in Haney, West Virginia.  She is preceded in death by her parents Elzie and Ella Napier, brothers Kenneth, Wilburn, Willis, and Wilford, and husbands William Huff and George Steele.

Surviving her are sisters Anna Jean O'Brian, Janice Branham, and Joyce Wellman, brother Wilkie Napier, children Gary A. (Janet) Huff, Mike (Cathy) Huff, Dreama (Gary) Gillette, Torry (Nora) Huff, Donovan "Chip" Huff, Karla Huff, Kevin (Carol) Huff, Mike (Debbie) Copley, Gary (Debby) Steele, grandchildren Anna-Leigh, Josh, Rusty, Scottie, Toby, Tosh, Rhett, Maelyn, Camron, Lorie, Audrey, Blake, Shane, Bart and Zack and 22 great grandchildren.

Effie was retired from Wayne County Public Schools and a member of the Lighthouse Freewill Baptist Church.  Effie will always be remembered for her love and devotion to her entire family.

Viewing will take place on Thursday, November 19th at Wilson Funeral Home in Louisa, Kentucky from 4:00-9:00PM.
