Ruby Ramey, 95, of Fort Gay, W.Va. passed away Monday, January 7, 2013 at Samaritan Hospital in Ashland, Ohio. She was born July 7, 1917 in Fort Gay, W.Va. a daughter of the late Thomas and Emma Wilson Copley. She was a housewife. In addition to her parents he was preceded in death by her husband Charlie Ramey.
 

Survivors include one daughter, Florene of Columbus, Ohio; one son Charles E. Ramey of Lucas, Ohio. 18 Grandchildren, Several Great and Great Great Grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM Saturday, January 12, 2013 at Young Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Frank Copley and Rev. Richard Maynard officiating. Burial will follow at Hardwick Cemetery, Bromley Ridge.

Visitation will be 5:00 til 9:00 PM Friday at Young Funeral Home.

Edgar Willis “Eddie Bill” Bradley

1943 - 2013

Edgar Willis “Eddie Bill” Bradley, age 69, of Louisa went to be with the Lord Thursday, January 3, 2013 at Three Rivers Medical Center of Louisa, KY.  Edgar was born October 15, 1943 in Colorado Springs, Co. He is the son of the late Edgar Warren and the late Marie (Nelson) Bradley.  He was also preceded in death by his wife, Reneca Tarring Bradley. He was a retired truck driver.

He is survived by two daughters; Emily Butler of Howard, Ohio, Melissa Bradley of South Point, Ohio and two sons; Elza Dean Bradley of FL, Billy Bradley of FL.,  Brother of one sister, Carole Sue Fugitt of Louisa, KY.,  stepdaughter, Bobbie Jo Fannin of Louisa, KY, step daughter, Debra Kise of Louisa, KY., several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Willie Gene Hayes and Bro. Bucky Tarring on Sunday January 6th at 1:00 pm at the Meades Branch FWB Church. Burial will follow in the Bryant Cemetery at Charley, KY.

James Robert "Jim Bob" Hardwick

1925 - 2013

James Robert "Jim Bob" Hardwick, 87, of Fort Gay, W.Va. passed away Friday, January 4, 2013 at his home. He was born August 14, 1925 in Fort Gay, W.Va. a son of the late Ed and Francis Crum Hardwick.

He was a retired foreman for Inco Alloys, he was a United States Amry Veteran, he was a member for 64 years of the Vinson Lodge #66 and was a past Master, he was a 33 degree of the Ancient and Accepted of the Scottish Rite in the Valley of Huntington, member of El Hasa Shriners of Ashland, Ky, Order of Eastern Star Chapter # 160, past member Board of Directors of Wayne Co. Solid Waste, Past member of Fort Gay Lions Club, Member of the Fort Gay Baptist Church.

Survivors include his loving wife of 45 years, Ruby Osborne Hardwick of Fort Gay, W.Va.; one daughter, Gertie Francis Friend of PA.; two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 PM Tuesday at Young Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ric Frazier officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, Louisa.

Xzavier T. Wayne Witham

1998 - 2013

Xzavier T. Wayne Witham, 14, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 3, 2013. Xzavier was born on September 14,1998.

He was the dearest son of Michael Paul and Freedom Williamson of Fallsburg, Ky.. He has one loviing young sister, Jamalynn Williamson.

Xzavier is best known for his enjoyment of life and his memorable smile that has touched everyone who knew him. Xzavier was an 8th grader at Fallsburg Elementary School where he enjoyed basketball and played as number 44. He also enjoyed deer, turkey and other hunting pursuits. He loved to spend time with his friends and family riding bikes, four wheelers, vacationing, camping or spending time at the cabin. He also loved playing with his pup, Roscoe. Xzavier was there with a ready smile and a willing heart for everyone around him.

For the past 18 months Xzavier has fought a battle with a type of cancer called Ewing's Sarcoma. He was a very strong cancer warrior but God's will was to call him home.

Xzavier leaves behind many family and friends as he takes his journey to Heaven. Grandparents James Michael and Dedra Williamson, Fallsburg, Ky., grandparents Ted Witham, Winchester, Ky. and Linda Witham, Fallsburg, Ky., Aunt, Samantha (Tommy) Newsome, Lenore, W.Va., Aunt, Jean Johnson, Fallsburg, Ky., cousins Tyler, Alyssa, and Andrea Newsome, cousins Zachary Mobley, Dominic Stepp, Alexia Witham, Joshua Witham and Braxton Parson. A very special second family to Xzavier include Tyler Blankenship, Eric Mollett, April and Mike Sammons, and daughter Millie, and so many other wonderful family and friends who loved and were loved by Xzavier.

The funeral will be held 1:00 pm on Sunday, January 6, 2013 at the Fallsburg Tabernacle Church with Bro. Edmond Hickman officiating. Burial will be in Williamson Family Cemetery.

Calling hours will be Friday, January 4, 2013 from 6:00 - 9:00 pm and all day Saturday, January 5th at Fallsburg Tabernacle.

Eddie Lee Elliott Sr.

1957 - 2012

 

Eddie Lee Elliott Sr., 55, of Catlettsburg, Ky. passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at his home. He was born January 7, 1957 in Floyd County, Ky. a son of Betty Kidd Elliott and the late Garland Elliott. He worked in refrigeration and was self employed. In addition to his father he was preceded in death by one brother, Keith Elliott; sister, Paulette Cartmel.

Audrey Roberts Burgess Booth

1927, 2012

Audrey Roberts Burgess Booth, 85, of Louisa, Ky. died peacefully at Three Rivers Medical Center on December 31, 2012. She spent her final days surrounded by her loving family. Audrey was born on September 23, 1927 in Aflex, Ky. to the late George and Cornis Roberts. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Lawrence Quinton Burgess, Louisa, Ky., daughter Leah Burgess Davis, and brother Bobbie F. Roberts. She was a membr of the First United Methodist Church in Louisa.

Audrey was a graduate of Fort Gay High School, She was an accomplished trombonist having earned first chair in the West Virginia All State Band four consecutive years. She graduated from Morehead State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Education and a Master's Degree in Adult and Continuing Education. She taught Adult Education in Wayne County, W.Va. Her teaching career was filled with students who loved and respected her, and whose lives were better for having learned from her. After retiring from teaching, she was fortunate enough to travel extensively to destinations around the world.

Few are blessed with a life as filled with love and joy as Audrey. She truly loved having fun, and was never happier than when surrounded by her family and friends. Her jouful sense of humor and prolific laughter were well known by those close to her. Perhaps her greatest source of joy was caring for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, of whom she was fiercely proud. The love of music that was such an important part of her life blossomed in the generations following her, and she took every opportunity to sing and play with her family.

She is survived by her loving husband of 27 years, Charley Edwin Booth, one sister, Valeria Ryan, Louisa, Ky., brother Ron Roberts, Ft. Gay. W.Va., son Jeff Burgess (Kathy), Lexington, Ky., daughter Jane Wallen (David), Louisa, Ky., son-in-law Kerry Davis, Lexington, Ky., grandchildren Addie Mirander and Blair Frias (Manual), Michael Burgess and Lauren Child (Nick), Emily Martin (Chris) Seth Wallen and Joseph Wallen, as well as seven great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Friday 2:00 pm at First United Methodist Church , Louisa, Ky. Interment will follow at the Burgess Family Cemetery, Louisa.

Visitation will be Thursday 5:00 - 9:00 pm at Young Funeral Home Louisa, Ky.

Robert Kenneth Simpson

1926 - 2012

 

Robert Kenneth Simpson, 86, of Louisa, Ky. passed away Sunday, December 30, 2012 at Three Rivers Medical Center in Louisa, Ky.

He was born November 26, 1926 in Louisa, Ky. a son of the late Giles Allen and Nellie Hatcher Simpson. He was a retired area sales representative for R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co., he was a United States WWII Navy Veteran 1944-45, a 1947 graduate of Louisa High School, and attended the University of Kentucky. He was  a member of the #195 Apperson F&A.M.,  the Scottish Rites of Freemasonry (32nd Degree) ,  Eastern Star Chapter 292 , Kentucky Civil War Roundtable, Kentucky Historical Society, National Rifle Assocoation, Rotary International (past president of Louisa Club), Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity, and a proud life member of the University of Kentucky Alumni Association. He was  a member of the First United Methodist Church of Louisa. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, Giles Henry Simpson, James Laban Simpson, John Franklin Simpson and Charles Allen Simpson, also preceded in death by stepmother, Georgia Carter Simpson.
 

Survivors include, his loving wife, Phyllis Pennington Simpson of Louisa, Ky.; two daughters, Robin (Thomas) Simpson Smith of Prestonsburg, Ky.; Rhonda (Jeffrey) Simpson Wilson of Spartanburg, S.C.; Four Grandchildren, Robert Christian Smith, Emma Kathleen Smith, Hailey Robin Wilson and Julia Frances Wilson; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Flossie Ann James, 79, of Louisa, Ky. passed away Thursday, December 27, 2012 at Three Rivers Medical Center in Louisa, Ky.. She was born May 15, 1933 in Webbville, Ky. a daughter of the late Herman and Artie Steel Adams. She was a homemaker. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband William Blevins, daughter, Goldie Fannin and granddaughter, Amanda Blevins.

Survivors include her husband, Kenneth James of Texas; two daughters, Elsie Graff of Haverhill, Ohio; Judy Cordle of Louisa, Ky.; sister, Egie Caldwell of Webbville, Ky.; 6 Grandchildren, 16 Great Grandchildren and 2 Great Great Grandchildren.

Anna Lee Jones

Anna Lee Jones, age 95, of Louisa, died Saturday, December 29, 2012 at Three Rivers Medical Center of Louisa, KY.  Anna was born January 10, 1917 in Fallsburg, KY. She is the daughter of the late Kay and the late Elizabeth (Newsome) Henson.

She was a retired Patient Care Assistant.

She is survived by three daughters; Rose Mary Jones of Louisa, KY, Erma Lee Copley of Crum, WV, Kay Wellman of Louisa, KY and three sons; Giddie Jones of Lima, OH, Willis Jones of Lima, OH, Paul Jones of Belville, MI,   she also has twenty-one grandchildren, several great and great- great grandchildren, Son In Law, Clarence Copley of Crum, WV, Son In Law, Luther Wellman of Louisa, KY, and Daughter In Law, Barbara Jones of Belville, MI;

Predeceased by her husband Littleton Henry Jones,  son, Douglas Jones, son, Robert Gene Jones, great granddaughter, Ashley Rice.

Wayne B. Short, 92, of Louisa, Ky. passed away Friday, December 28, 2012 at his home. He was born March 31, 1920 in Louisa, Ky. a son of the late Jay and Lennie Hamilton Short. He was a Journeyman for General Motors. He was a United States Army WWII Veteran, a member of the V.F.W. and attended Myrtle Chapel Church and Yatesville Community Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Adams Short.
 

Survivors include, his loving wife Effie Chaffin Short of Louisa, Ky.; stepson, Arnold Pennington of Hillsboro, Ohio; stepdaughter, Glenna Reed of Louisa, Ky.; nephews, Frank Short of Columbus, Ohio, and John Short of Lucasville, Ohio; 3 step grandchildren, several great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild.

Ethel Marie Johnson Ratcliff, 73, of Webb, W.Va. passed away Thursday, December 27, 2012 at Three Rivers Medical Center in Louisa, Ky. She was born November 15, 1939 in Horsecreek, W.Va. a daughter of Frances Evans Johnson and the late Thomas Johnson. She was a homemaker. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Ratcliff and a granddaughter, Samantha Ratcliff.

Roger David Dillon, 60, of Louisa, Ky. passed away Monday, December 24, 2012 at his home. He was born June 26, 1952 in Huntington, W.Va. a son of Pauline Johnson Dillon and the late Hustin Dillon. He was a mechanic for CSX Railroad. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and he was a member of the Fire & Iron Station 29 Motorcycle Club, and is  retired from Barboursville, W.Va. and Louisa, Ky. Fire Department.

Survivors include, his loving wife, Kathy Dewees Dillon of Louisa, Ky.; Mother, Pauline Johnson Dillon of Barboursville, W.Va.; Daughter, Jessica Dillon Akers of Louisa, Ky.; Son, Josh Dillon also of Louisa, Ky.; Sisters, Fern Waugh of Lasage, W.Va.; Grandchildren, Semarra Akers and C.D. Frances Fayetta York, age, 78 of 13 Dry Hill Ct, Lebanon, OH passed away Sunday, December 23, 2012 at Hospice Of Cincinnati of Blue Ash, OH.

Survived by one daughter, Kathryn S. Harris of Lebanon, OH and two sons; Vance A. York of Logan, OH, Mark A. York of Norfolk, VA;  Sister of two sisters: Fern Schrickel of Akron, OH, Patsy Orlovsky of Louisville, KY and two brothers: Heston Cooksey Jr. of Roanoke, VA, James K. Cooksey of Garden City, SC;  She also has nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her parents Hubert Fleming and Katherine Sword Cooksey and step father Heston Cooksey Sr.

Lark McCellan Marcum, 73, of Louisa, Ky. passed away Friday, December 21, 2012 at Kings Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky. He was born October 5, 1939 in Crum, W.Va. a son of the late Walter and Essie Helen Perry Marcum. He was a machinist for S&C Electric. He attended Upper Tabors Creek Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by wife, Estella Browning Marcum, and son, Glenn Marcum.
 

Survivors include, his loving wife, Pearline Frazier Marcum of Louisa, Ky.; daughter, Donna Sue Marcum; brothers, Delmar Joe Marcum, James Edward Marcum and Walter Marcum Jr. all of Fort Gay, W.Va. or Louisa, Ky.; sisters, Mary E. Donald E. Thompson, 70, of Louisa, Ky. passed away Monday, December 17, 2012 at Three Rivers Medical Center in Louisa, Ky. He was born March 2, 1942 in Harlan, Ky. a son of the late George W. and Lula Jennings Thompson. He was a carpenter.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Kristina L. Thompson.

Survivors include, wife, Doris A. Thompson of Louisa, Ky.; daughter, Donna A. Thompson, of Hurricane, W.Va.; two grandsons, Josjua S. Hillman and Brenton D. Ford; two great grandchildren, Wyatt Ford and Delilah Ford.

Rev. Fred Porter

1927 - 2012

 

Rev. Fred Porter, age 85, passed away peacefully at Southwest Residential Hospice, after a courageous battle with cancer on Dec. 17, 2012. He is the beloved husband of Ethel (nee Sword); loving father of Jim (Peggy), Debbie Wilfong, Joe (Sue), Chuck (Sandy) and Angel Boll (Rich); dear grandfather of Judy Keaney (Kevin), Kevin Wilfong, Todd Wilfong (Angela), Derrick Porter, Tyler Boll, DeAndria Porter, Savannah Boll, Jolene Porter and Emma Boll; step-grandfather of Craig, Cady and Colton Sturgill; great-grandfather of Aliyah Wilfong.

Fred is preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Henry Stewart and Opal Porter, stepmother Helen Porter; sisters, Jessie Porter, Bessie Blevins and Lutie Tabors and son, Jim Porter. He is survived by 14 brothers and sister, and a host of dear friends and family.

James C. Kirk, age 80, of Louisa died Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at J.J. Jordan Geriatric Center of Louisa, KY.  James was born July 7, 1932 in Louisa, KY. He is the son of the late Thomas Benton and the late Rebecca (Wellman) Kirk.  He married Patricia Lynn Floyd.

He served in the Army during the the Korean war from 11-13-1952 to 11-9-1954.  He was a retired Carpenter.

Archie B. Dotson, 87, of Louisa, Ky. passed away surrounded by her loving family on Monday, December 17, 2012 at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky. She was born February 8, 1925 in Kermit, W.Va. a daughter of the late Charles A. Kirk and Jessie Pickrell Kirk Skaggs. She was a retired nurse of Louisa General Hospital and the Louisa Medical Clinic. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry B. Dotson; one son, Thomas E. Akers;  brothers, William Fredrick Kirk and Robert Kirk; sisters, Kathleen Wolford and Virginia Pennington.

1944 - 2012

Jean Sheffield, 68, of Fort Gay, W.Va. passed away Saturday, December 15, 2012 at Three Rivers Medical Center in Louisa, Ky. She was born December 10, 1944 in Louisa, Ky. a daughter of the late Everett Parsons and Beulah Smith York. She was a homemaker. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Doug Sheffield; two daughters, Vickie Joyce Collins and Rita Ann Collins; one sister, Carolyn York; one brother, Paul York.

Survivors include, one son, Johnny Mitchell Collins Jr. of Shrievport, Louisanna; six sisters, Beulah Parsons of Fort Gay, W.Va.; Diane York and Joyce Cook both of Huntington, W.Va., Betty Stamper of Louisanna, Linda Dodds of Huntington, W.Va., Fern Cox of Kenova, W.Va.; three brothers, Charles Parsons of Genoa, W.Va., Richard York of Fort Gay, W.Va., Archie Parsons of Louisa, Ky., 9 Grandchildren and 1 Great Grandchild.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM Wednesday at Young Funeral Home Chapel .

Visitation will be 11:00 AM til 2:00 PM Wednesday at Young Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at the Parsons Cemetery, Fort Gay, W.Va..

 

Olive Elizabeth Porter Sparks Thompson 

1954 - 2012

Olive Elizabeth Porter Sparks Thompson, 58, of Genoa, W.Va. passed away Saturday, December 15, 2012 at Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, W.Va. She was born January 27, 1954 in Louisa, Ky. a daughter of the late Clyde and Edna Webb Porter. She was a homemaker. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Vernon Thompson, one son, Joey Porter, one brother, Robert Porter.

Survivors include, one daughter, Tammy Pack of Fort Gay, W.Va.; fivr step-daughters, Vickie Osborne, Debra Vanhoose, Lisa Lycan, Regina Layfield and Patricia Berry all of Fort Gay, W.Va.; two step-sons, Randy Thompson and Ricky Thompson both of Fort Gay, W.Va., four sisters, Rosetta Sparks, Geneva Watts both of Fort Gay, W.Va., Shirley Thompson of Mansfield, Ohio; Leta Bowen of Wayne, W.Va,. one brother, John Porter of Genoa, W.Va.. two grandchildren, Olivia and Clyde Pack. Several step grandchildren and several great grandchildren.


Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at Oak Grove Church, Fort Gay with Rev. Mack Ray Cyrus officiating. Burial will follow at the Damron Community Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 2:00 PM Monday at Oak Grove Church.


 

 

 

Jeffery Allen Thompson

1964 - 2012

Jeffery Allen Thompson, 48, of Louisa, Ky. passed away Thursday, December 13, 2012 at Three Rivers Medical Center in Louisa, Ky. He was born October 11, 1964 in Louisa, Ky. a son of the late Charles and Barbara Moore Thompson.
 

Survivors include his wife, Kelly Thompson; two brothers, Doug (Sharrie) Thompson of Vanceburg, Ky.; Jimmy (Debbie) Thompson of Pikeville, Ky.; one sister, Connie Thompson of Grove City, Ohio; 2 Stepdaughters, 3 nieces and 1 nephew and many Great Nieces and Nephews.

Graveside services will be conducted 2:00 PM Monday at Fernwood Cemetery, Lockbourne, Ohio.

Visitation will be after 6:00 PM Sunday at Spencer Freewill Baptist Church, Louisa.

Eula E. Spaulding

1926 - 2012

Eula E. Spaulding, age 86, of Fort Gay, WV, died Thursday, December 13, 2012 at Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington, WV.  Eula was born June 21, 1926 in Fort Gay, WV. She is the daughter of the late Carmie and the late Inez Webb.  She was predeceased by her husband, Amos Jack Spaulding who died in  1999.

She was employed by  as a Stereo Factory Worker.

She is survived by one daughter: Brenda Spaulding of Fort Gay, WV and three sons: Frank Spaulding of Pawcatuck, CT, Jerry Spaulding of Norwich, CT, Richard Spaulding of Fort Gay, WV;  Sister of one sister: Maglene Hamm of Mansfield, OH and one brother: William David Webb of Washington C.H., OH; she also has thirteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren.

Predeceased by her Father, Carmie Webb, Mother, Inez Webb, daughter, Linda Seffton, Son, Carlos Spaulding.

The funeral will be held 11:00 am on Monday, December 17, 2012 at Wilson Funeral Home Inc., 1270 Hwy 2565, Louisa, KY with Bro. Kimble Copley officiating.  Burial will be in Webb Cemetery, Webb, WV.

Calling hours will be Sunday, December 16 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Wilson Funeral Home Inc., 1270 Hwy 2565, Louisa, KY.

 

Dorma Sue Vance Flemings

1946 - 2012

Dorma Sue Vance Flemings, 66, of Fort Gay, W.Va. passed away Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at Three Rivers Medical Center in Louisa, Ky. She was born March 19, 1946 in Logan, W.Va. a daughter of the late Lewis and Arlie Brickles Vance. She was a housewife. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Millard Flemings.


Survivors include, three daughters, Tabatha Flemings of Columbus, Ga.; Rebecca Mosley of Greenup, Ky. Kimberly Powers of Blacksburg, S.C.; one sister,  Shirley Manolias of Iowa; four brothers, Elias Vance, Richard Vance, James Vance and Roy Vance all of Ohio. 7 Grandchildren and 2 Great Grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Sunday, December 17, 2012 at Oak Grove Church with Rev. Luther Dingess officiating.

Visitation will be after 5:00 PM Saturday at Oak Grove Church, Fort Gay, W.Va.

Grace Irene Rowe, 90, of Fort Gay, W.Va. passed away Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at her home.

She was born February 16, 1922 in Whitehouse, Ky. a daughter of the late James and Pearl Osborne Lemaster. She was a housewife and a member of Fort Gay Methodist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Bill J. Rowe; daughter, Donna Daniels and sister, Edith Copley.
 

Survivors include five daughters, Carol Hughes of Greenup, Ky.; Jane Arbogast of Creston, Ohio; Phyllis Lynch of Haverhill, Ohio; Mary Ellen Artrip of Fort Gay, W.Va.; Lois Ekers also of Fort Gay, W.Va.; three sons, Robert Rowe of Wheelersburg, Ohio; James Rowe of Tomball, TX.; Paul David Rowe of Fort Gay, W.Va.; two brothers, Bural Lemaster of Fort Gay, W.Va.; Oscar Lemaster of Rittman, Ohio; 20 Grandchildren, 42 Great Grandchildren and 4 Great Great Grandchildren.
