Chief Greg Fugitt of the Louisa Police Department released a statement saying that starting July 1, and running through July 30th his department, along with other law enforcement agencies across the state will be participating in the “Blue Lights across the Bluegrass” highway safety campaign.
The main objective is to reduce serious injuries and fatalities during a time period that is typically very dangerous for motorists by increasing speed and seatbelt enforcement throughout Louisa.
“In July 2011 Lawrence County as a whole had 23 total collisions that month, seven of which were in Louisa. Of those 23 collisions, 10 were resulting in injuries and 4 of them being in Louisa”. “I am hoping that with our efforts and the efforts of the Lawrence County Sheriff Department and Kentucky State Police we can reduce this number this year," stated Chief Greg Fugitt. "Wear your seatbelts, do not use cell phone while driving, slow down and just be aware of your surroundings are just a few ways that we as community could make things a little safer, Fugitt said.
