NOTICE OF HEARING LAWRENCE COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION (Correction 8/23/2011)

The Lawrence County Board of Education will hold a public hearing at the Lawrence County High School Library on September 8, 2011 at 6:00 pm to hear public comments regarding a proposed general fund tax levy of 48.1 cents.

The General Fund tax levied in fiscal year 2010-11 was 45.9 cents and produced revenue of $2,611,760. The proposed General Fund tax rate of 48.1 cents on real property and 48.1 cents on personal property is expected to produce $2,803,131 for 2011-12. Of this amount, $560,740 is from new and personal property. The compensating tax rate for 2011-12 is 46.3 and is expected to produce $2,698,231.

The general areas to which revenue in excess of 2010-11 revenue is to be allocated are as follows: Cost of collection, $6,831; and technology to enhance instruction and improve student achievement, $184,540.

The General Assembly has required publication of this advertisement and information contained herein.

The Kentucky Prescription Assistance Program is available! This program is designed to assist Kentuckians in locating free or reduced cost prescriptions. There are guidelines for eligibility, but it is definitely worth the time to sit down and apply. 

Lawrence County needs volunteers to assist with the application process. Please contact the Lawrence County Judge’s Office for more information at 606-638-4102.

MESSAGE FROM THE LAWRENCE COUNTY SOLID WASTE COORDINATOR

The Kentucky Division of Waste Management has offered Lawrence County grant funding for the elimination of illegal open dumps that were created because of the May 2011 flood event. The Lawrence County Fiscal Court will be offering free dumping, from June 13-30 2011, to all County residents to assist them in the removal of all household solid waste that has accumulated due to the flood event. Dumpsters will be available at the following locations:

Lawrence County Garage: 8:00am to 4:00pm Monday thru Saturday during June 13-30 2011.

Louisa City Garage: 8:00am to 4:00pm Monday thru Friday during June 13-30 2011.

 

LEGAL NOTICE

In accordance with the provisions of KRS 67.045, the Fiscal Court of the County of Lawrence, Kentucky hereby gives notice of the procedures to be followed in the planned reapportionment of the magisterial districts:

The Fiscal Court shall, at a meeting on the 20th day of June, 2011, appoint three (3) competent citizens of the County, over age twenty-one (21) and residing in different districts, and the County Clerk as a nonvoting member, to serve as Reapportionment Commissioners, whose duty shall be to lay the County off into not less than three (3) nor more than eight (8) districts.

The Reapportionment Commissioners shall, within sixty (60) days from the date of their appointment, lay off the boundary lines of the districts in accordance with the provisions of KRS 67.045 and submit their written Report, showing the boundary of each district and the estimated population in each, to the County Clerk and the members of the Fiscal Court.

The Fiscal Court shall, within (60) days after receipt of the Reapportionment Commissioners' Report, consider the Report and either adopt or amend the Report.

Any registered voter of the County may, within twenty (20) days of the establishment of the districts by the Fiscal Court, bring an action in Lawrence County Circuit Court to enforce the provisions of KRS 67.045.
