Bowens in new Ft. Gay Police Chief, staff now at four
FT. GAY, W.Va., -- Several changes in the staffing of the Fort Gay Police Department this week resulted in the the Chief of Police stepping down and now having the title of Corporal.
Hunt he stepped down as the chief because "he didn't want the duties of the chief anymore". Fort Gay Mayor Rose Devaney hired a former Fort Gay police officer, Joe Bowens to replace Hunt as the chief.
Also, the department has a new officer named Anthony Thompson. Thompson is a 2008 Lawrence County High School graduate who recently moved to the Fort Gay area and is the military reserves. Thompson has been doing military duties at Fort Leonardwood, Missouri before settling into Fort Gay.
According to Corporal Hunt, Thompson will start his police academy training within the next year.
The FGPD is now staffed with four officers being Chief Bowens, Corporal Hunt and officers Thompson and Emily Mays who is scheduled to complete her criminal justice training from ITT College next month.
