FIVCO Area Development District forms Regional Development Planning Committee…..five members representing Lawrence County
Tuesday, May 24, was the first meeting of the new regional development committee just formed within the FIVCO Area Development District. The FIVCO district which is made up of five counties; Lawrence, Carter, Elliot, Boyd, and Greenup, is one of 15 such groups in the state, which operates as a partnership of local government units. The purpose of these groups are to assist in the areas of planning, GIS, economic development, transportation, and more.
In an effort to work together within the five counties and promote regionalism, FIVCO has developed a new committee that will promote the economic development and overall success within the five county district.
Areas of discussion for the committee will focus on types and locations of business/industry within the five county region, demographic characteristics, marketable resources, transportation and infrastructure, strengths and needs in the area, labor supply, recruitment, training, legislation, tourism/recreation, entrepreneurship, small business development and related issues.
Membership of this committee will consist of people from the five county area, representing varying areas of community and economic development.
Selected to represent Lawrence County on this committee are: John Osborne, County Judge Executive, Bonnie Conn, Director of Northeast Development-KY Career Center for Lawrence County, Catrina Vargo, Lawrence County Economic Development Coordinator, Greg Kiser, CEO of Three Rivers Medical Center, and Laura Maggard, Lawrence County Extension Agent.
