A message from Mike McKinney

Mike McKinney was born and raised in Lawrence County and is a part of the working class. He started mowing grass when he was nine years old, then later worked as a security guard for a couple of local companies, as well being part of maintenance crew at Three River Medical Center in Louisa.  McKinney eventually began driving truck for J.B. Hunt, and hauled coal as well, and in 1983, developed his own business; McKinney Hauling.  In 2000, he purchased Big Sandy Aggregate, known as Big Sandy Stone just outside of Louisa.

McKinney said he feels that the County Judge Executive position is not a one man show. "I would not work alone, but with the community and officials, as a team."

He also stressed the importance of the magistrates, that they are elected by the residents as well, and should be part of the decision making process. McKinney said that if elected, he would put the county first, regardless of political party differences.

"Times are getting harder, and we need to concentrate spending money based on necessity" said McKinney.  He said as a local business owner, customers are his livelihood and he realizes how important it is to keep local people working, so that money can be spent in our own county.   He supports local laborers and businesses, and is aware that the tax payers should have a say in where their money is distributed.

If elected, McKinney said he would follow up on the progress that has already been made in the county such as continuing the clean-up projects.  One of his top priorities is to improve and maintain roads in the area.  With his knowledge and experience in road building and maintenance, Mike feels that he would be a tremendous asset to the county.  Other issues include job creation and growth, services for citizens, and constant application of grants for various improvement projects. He would also work to make the area appealing for new businesses.

Mike said he has provided services for the community for over 40 years. He has maintained a small, successful business with hard work, honesty, and integrity. His work experience and knowledge of the needs of the people in Lawrence County, he feels, makes him a good candidate for County Judge Executive. He treats people with respect and is no stranger to the struggles of everyday life.

"I always wanted to do something for the county" said McKinney.  "I would like to have the opportunity to work for county residents as I have for myself for many years as a life long resident and tax payer."

Mike is married to Erica Burchett McKinney.  They have two children, Myca, 10 and Macy, 4.  Mike McKinney asks for your vote for County Judge Executive in the upcoming election, and said he would work hard and do the best he can to improve Lawrence County.
