Candidates have until 4:00 pm August 14 to register to run for six open seats on the Louisa City Council, Mayor and two seats on the Board of Education.

That's one week from today (Tuesday)!

Districts 1 and 3, currently held by Maddlene Roberts and Garnett Skaggs, are up for election this year according to Clerk Chris Jobe.

Along with the BOE races will be the proposed "nickel tax" which would be used for a new school to replace Louisa East and West Elementaries.

The question, already approved by Judge John D. Preston, has a simple yes or no voting slot.

Mayor Harold Slone has one opponent for the now $50,000 per year job in little known James Allen Pauley-Barker. City Council incumbents voted themselves a $50 per meeting raise beginning when the new term kicks off in January.

Quoting Mayor:
If you want a quality mayor you're going to have to pay for it. The superintendent of LC schools makes over 100,000/year. Heck the jailor makes 60 or 70/year. 4 -5 at board office makes 70 or more. If the mayor make 50 that would put him/her in line with the library director. Pay up !

We sure don’t have a quality Mayor now!!!!

The superintendent has a doctorate degree.
The jailor is a county job. (More population).
Board Office employees have college educations:

Need I say more Mr and Mrs Slone.

Then explain the county Judge executive then. Over $80,000 and none of them in the past couple decades have been college educated or even experienced.

He is over the whole county, not just the city limits. Duh

$50,000.00 for the mayor is entirely too much. It doesn’t take much to figure out Slone is doing this for himself.
