Annual event draws capacity crowd
The Conference room of the Lawrence County Library was filled to capacity for the September meeting of the Louisa Chapter DAR. A Silver Party for the 229th anniversary of the signing of the Constitution and the 225th anniversary of the Bill of Rights. Constitution Week is observed each year for the week of September 17-23.
Regent Mary E. Reid introduced the many special guests for the evening including, Louisa Mayor; Harold Slone, The VFW and The American Legion, and State and District Officers of DAR.
Patricia Hatfield presented a piece of Silver from her own collection and Regent Mary Reid presented the following with gifts: State Regent Lesley Rogers Miller, State 1st Vice Regent Marsha Banks, Judy Carter, 6 th District and Harmon Station Regent (Paintsville), Patricia Reeves.
After DAR Rituals and order of business, the members and guests were presented with a Catered meal by Hostess Patricia Hatfield.
August meeting…
At the August meeting Regent Mary E. Reid informed members of the following awards to the Louisa Chapter that she had received:
* From the Kentucky Society DAR , Genealogical Records Committee Recognized the Louisa Chapter 1st place for number of unpublished, Abstracted or copied pages sent to GRC chair in 2015.
* DAR Museum Outreach Committee recognized Patricia Hatfield for outstanding PEP activity and also recognized the Louisa Chapter for Outstanding work.
* DAR Membership Committee recognized Louisa Chapter for 2nd place ( 9 new members) most new members in District 6.
* The National Society of the DAR awarded Citation To Louisa Chapter for Outstanding accomplishments in attaining Level 1 for 2015. Also, Patricia Hatfield was recognized as the new KSDAR Literacy Chairman.
The hostesses for the evening were Reba Whitt, Mary E. Reid, Linda Holt and (not pictured) Wanda Cassady.
As you can see the Louisa Chapter is very busy and active and always looking for new members. If anyone is interested you can just show up at the DAR room in the Riverview bldg. on Thursday between 10:00 – 3:00 and someone will be there to answer your questions.
