Lawrence Economic Development Dept. in talks with potential new company
The Economic Development Dept. of the Lawrence Co. Fiscal Court, along with New Energy Resources and another local contact, is working with a company who is planning to expand their business in another location.
“We are working hard to make that location be here — in Lawrence County” said John Osborne, County Judge Executive.
Judge Osborne, Economic Development Coordinator, Catrina Vargo, and Suzie New, of New Energy Resources, recently met with the president and vice-president of the company, along with a local business owner who has had contracts with the company in the past.
“The meeting went very well” said Vargo. This company has been in business since 1978, and could offer about 20 jobs with wages from $22-$35 per hour, depending on the position. Future plans of this company also holds great growth potential.’
Plans are in the works to meet the company’s needs, and grant funding is being sought to match their investment. Suzie New, part owner of New Energy Resources, who is working on a private investor project in the county and is involved in a lot of community efforts, said she will be contacting state officials for help on this project. “Lawrence County has been ignored for way too long. We have an opportunity to bring some good jobs here, and we need help. This will be a good time for our state officials to make good on their word, and assist eastern KY.
Several details still have to be worked out as the recruitment process moves forward, but Vargo said, “we are hopeful, and are doing everything we can to make this happen.”
